#1What is the AMV Academy?
It's our equivalent of a graduate scheme – except we just look for the best people, regardless of whether you’ve been to university or are just looking for a change of career. Each year, we offer a full-time job (with no end date) to around 8 of the strongest applicants. After an intensive (but enjoyable, we promise!) 6-week training programme, the Academy cohort are released onto some of the biggest and most exciting brands in the building to begin their careers in our Account Management department. To hear it from the people who have done it, check out our guide to the AMV Academy: https://amv.webstuff.me/what-is-the-amv-academy/Back to top
#2Is it a permanent job?
Absolutely! It's different from lots of other London ad agency schemes because the AMV Academy is not a 6- or 12-month placement. It's a full-time permanent job with no end-date; we really do hope you'll stay with us for years.Back to top
#3Who can apply?
We make ads for all sorts of people, so we want to hire all sorts of people. You can apply to the Academy if you're: a) in your final year of university study, b) have already graduated from university, or c) haven't attended university but have a minimum of 3 years full-time experience in a workplace. You definitely don't need to have studied advertising, marketing or business before (although, if you have, we obviously would like to hear from you too)!Back to top
#4What are you looking for?
Bright, enthusiastic, creatively minded and just generally lovely types. You don't need to be obsessed about advertising, or have an encyclopaedic knowledge of it - but you must demonstrate a genuine passion to learn more and a real, astute appreciation for creative ideas. Account Management is all about being good with people, being persuasive and - most importantly – trustworthy. Project Management is all about having your wits about you. You are someone who gets a thrill from a challenge, making things happen and drives your energy from all the wonderful, creative people you will surround yourself with. Candidates who can demonstrate those qualities, in really tangible terms, stand out.Back to top
#5When will applications open and close?
Applications will be open from early September and will close at 11pm on 14th October 2019!Back to top
#6Should I follow you on Twitter?
Yes. We frequently use Twitter to offer tips, places on our first-come first-served open days and remind people about deadlines. Our current AMV Academy scholars (who were in your shoes this time last year!) will also be taking over the feed, to tweet snapshots of what the training - and the job - is like. #7When would the job start?
We are officially hiring for a September 2020 start date. This is when the 6-week training programme will kick off, and when everyone will be together. As you'll see in the question below, there is often an opportunity to start earlier if you are willing and available - but whether or not you can will not affect your chances of being hired.Back to top
#8If I wanted to, could I start earlier than September 2020?
Yes, some recruits usually start earlier than the rest of their intake (simply because they are already free and we need a position to be filled). But don't worry if you can't start any earlier than September 2020 - it won't affect your chances of being hired. And rest assured the 6-week training programme won’t start until everybody’s together.Back to top
#9I’ve graduated from university already, can I still apply?
Yes, absolutely. Every year (pretty much), some of our successful recruits have already graduated before they apply. Some have even been working in a different industry for a couple of years. So it definitely won’t count against you.Back to top
#10I didn't go to university. Can I apply?
Yes - as long as you have a minimum of three years full-time experience in a workplace (NB: this DOESN'T need to be an advertising environment, it could be anything)! We completely appreciate that not everyone wants, or is able, to go to Uni - and we're really keen to meet people who've followed different paths.Back to top
#11I don’t have any advertising work experience, does that matter?
No, not at all. We’re aware that people can really struggle to get work experience in the industry if they don't have any family contacts, so our decisions are never based on who has or hasn’t got any.Back to top
#12I’ve applied before and didn’t get in. Can I apply again?
Of course. We've had candidates who were unsuccessful one year and we were able to offer them a full-time position the next, so you absolutely should.Back to top
#13I’ve submitted my application but think I could do a better job. Can I change my answers?
Yes you can. You can log into your application at any time in the ‘My account’ or ‘Welcome’ sections of the website and continue to amend your answers. Whichever application you submit last will replace your previous one.Back to top
#15I missed the deadline, can I still apply?
We’re afraid we only recruit for the AMV Academy once a year, so make sure that you’ve applied by 11pm on Monday 14th October. Otherwise you’ll need to wait a whole year again!Back to top
#16What are the interview dates?
If you make it through to our interview stage, you’ll be invited in on one of the following days: Wednesday 20th, Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd November. This year, the final round interviews will be held all day on Tuesday 3rd December.Back to top
#18How do I get to your office?
The nearest stations are Southwark, London Bridge and Blackfriars; all of which are approx. 5 - 10 minute walk away. Google Maps can sometimes be a bit deceptive when you type in our address, so best to search for 'Vapiano Southwark'.Back to top
#19What should I wear for the interviews?
Hopefully you can see from the videos that we’re a fairly smart-casual agency. Shirts and smart jeans are absolutely fine for boys. If in doubt though, remember no one will ever tell you off for being too smart!Back to top
#20Will you pay for my travel and expenses?
During first round interviews, we are unfortunately unable to. But if it'd be very costly for you to meet us, we are always more than happy to do it over Skype. We ARE able to pay up to £100 for final round interviewees travel and accommodation costs only (please remember to keep receipts – and bring them with you on the day)!Back to top
#21I can’t make the final round interview day, should I still apply?
The final round interview day is the most important part of the process for us, so - should you impress at the first round of interviews - you must be able to attend on Tuesday 3rd December or we unfortunately wouldn’t be able to consider you for the Academy. Please bear this mind when applying – it may even be worth blocking that date out in your calendar right now, just to be safe.Back to top
#22I am an international applicant and do not already have a working VISA for the UK. Can you help me arrange one?
We are unfortunately unable to provide assistance in securing a visa for applicants, so you do need to have the right to work permanently in the UK already in order to apply for the AMV Academy. As we are part of the BBDO network with agencies in 93 countries around the world, we would recommend applying to your local agency instead if you’re anxious about not being able to legally work in the UK.Back to top
#23If I'm successful, could I defer my start date by a year (so I start in September 2021)?
Unfortunately not. We cannot offer deferred places on the AMV Academy - you need to be willing and able to start on (or earlier than) September 2020 to be considered for this year's intake. However, we run the scheme annually - so if you'd like some time off, absolutely take it and just apply this time next year!Back to top
#24Are there opportunities to transfer abroad?
Although we’re part of the BBDO network, you would be hired to work in the London office only.Back to top
#25How safe is my data?
By submitting an application, you accept that AMV BBDO may need to process personal data about you and consents to us processing such data for any purpose connected with the application. All data supplied is submitted and stored through our secure and encrypted database. See terms and conditions:Back to top
#26Who can I get in touch with for any more questions?
Alex, Tessa and Susan co-ordinate the AMV Academy team, and are always here to answer any questions. If you need any more information either tweet us @AMVAcademy or send an email to email@example.com and one of us will get back to you as soon as we can.Back to top
#27Are you only hiring for the Account Management and Project management departments?
Yes - the Academy application process is tailored to find candidates suitable for Account Management, the largest department in the building, and the Project Management department. They are both a great place to start your career in advertising. You work with every other department in the building on a (more-or-less) daily basis, and gain a really holistic understanding of exactly how ads are made.Back to top
#28How do I get in to the strategy department at AMV?
We are currently not recruiting for junior strategist positions via the AMV Academy. Strategists will be involved during the recruitment process, and will of course keep an eye out for anyone who demonstrates different skillsets. But please be aware this is an account and project management scheme, and other agency’s entry-level schemes may be more appropriate for those solely interested in strategist positions.Back to top
#29How do I get in to the creative department at AMV?
We do not hire creatives or designers via the AMV Academy. There are creative directors who run AMV Hatch instead, a recruitment scheme to identify and nurture the next generation of creative talent. Click on the 'Creative Placements' tab (top right) to find out more about this.Back to top
#30What support can AMV provide for my disability?
AMV is for everybody. If you have a disability or differing support requirements, we’re committed to giving you the support you require to reach your best potential. We appreciate the individuality of your ability, so please get in touch using the details below if you’d like to discuss how best we can support you with your application, travel to the office or employment thereafter.Back to top
